Hi, I’m Jakob and I’m running to be your next DPCS.
Clubs, societies, and projects (CSPs) have played a major role in my life whilst at Imperial, and I have significant experience leading CSPs in committees, as well a supporting them in my role as Vice-President: Clubs and Societies of the Royal School of Mines Union this year.
CSPs are a major part of many students’ lives, and ensuring these students activities can be improved and built upon will help improve every Imperial student’s experience whilst at university.
My priorities for this role would be:
Increasing Inclusivity
- There are many barriers hindering students’ abilities to partake in CSPs. These can include social/cultural barriers, as well as financial.
- Using my experience as Science and Engineering Wellbeing Dep Rep 2022-2024, and working with the DPW, I would aim to dismantle these barriers, identifying key area where the issues lie to encourage a greater diversity of students to be involved.
Better Communication
- CSPs are often left to deal with the outcome of decisions, without hearing the information that has gone into deciding it.
- Increasing the transparency and communication between all levels of Union structure (full-time staff, sabbatical officers, management groups, CSP leaders) would increase understanding of all factors going into decisions.
Improving Training and Support
- Improving welfare support and training offered to CSP leaders would help better university culture and make for more inclusive environments.
- Review of the current training to improve on the content and improve relevance to CSP leaders.
