Healthcare Strategy & Policy: Policy & Research Officer

Hi! I'm Yacine Driss, a first-year Biomedical Engineering student at Imperial College London.

What interests me about healthcare is that developing a medical technology or treatment is only part of the story. I'm curious about what happens next: Who gets access to it? How are decisions about healthcare made? And how can we make sure that scientific progress translates into better outcomes for patients?

That's one of the reasons I chose Biomedical Engineering, and it's also why I want to explore healthcare policy alongside my degree.

In high school, I was a founding co-president of our Medical Department and helped organise a healthcare forum involving over 15 healthcare professionals. This experience encouraged me to look beyond the classroom and engage with the wider healthcare field.

As Policy & Research Officer, I'd love to help the society explore current healthcare issues, research the decisions shaping the sector and make complex topics accessible to students from different backgrounds. I'd be particularly interested in the relationship between medical innovation, healthcare accessibility and the decisions that determine how new technologies are used.

I'm still at the beginning of my university journey, but that's precisely why I want to get involved: to ask questions, learn from others and contribute to discussions that help us understand not just how healthcare advances, but how it can serve people better.
