Sophie Brand
I'm a third-year medical student who's passionate about psychiatry, mental health, and maintaing order. I want to work in a society that students are excited to be a part of. Whether they're passionate about psychiatry or simply looking for a welcoming community. Having attended and contributed to initiatives such as PsychStart and the annual Spring Conference, I've seen how my skills align with their successful production.
As the current Secretary and ex-subcommittee for ICSM Vision, I've developed strong organisational skills through coordinating conferences with over 300 attendees, communicating with different committee members, and keeping up-to-date with a handy Excel spreadsheet. I am dependable, meticulous, and I never miss an email. These skills aid me in bringing about the best outcome for our events.
Having previously worked with PsychSoc on a conference as Mind Health's Local Engagement Officer, I've developed solid decision-making and teamwork skills when working with outreach - ideal qualities of a Vice President.
I would work hard to maintain the high standard of our events and (perchance) add some more. A few ideas include:
- Medical Student Week: a week of collaborative events with other medical societies and external research/talk opportunities.
- Psychiatry Teaching: formal sessions run by students/tutors teaching relevant psychiatric topics to each year group.
- Relaxing Socials/Initiatives: e.g Coffee Chats/Board Game Nights/Paint and Sip/Workout Socials (Gym/Pilates) etc. to make the society more accessible.
Having plenty of experience with planning and taking responsibility, I am confident that I can bring sustained commitment and passion to this role.
