Women in SET: Industrial Liaison

Hello everyone! My name is Maya, I’m a Year 2 Chemical Engineering student and I’m applying to be Women in SET’s Industrial Liaison Officer! With women still being underrepresented across science, engineering and technology, I believe strong links with industry are one of the best ways to change that. Meeting professionals, hearing their stories and getting access to real opportunities can make a huge difference to our confidence and future careers.

I have experience building these connections. In Sixth Form, I founded and led my school’s first ever student-led Career Fair, reaching out to industry professionals and organising the event from scratch. This taught me how to approach companies, build lasting relationships and turn ideas into well-run events.

As Industrial Liaison Officer, I will reach out to a wide range of companies across STEM sectors, from established firms to start-ups, to secure sponsorship and create partnerships that benefit our members. I want to bring more industry events to Women in SET, including talks/workshops, networking evenings, panels with women in leadership roles and site visits, so members can explore different career paths and build connections early. I will also make sure opportunities such as internships, insight days and mentoring schemes are shared clearly and regularly, so everyone gets the chance to take part.

I’m organised, proactive and passionate about supporting women in STEM. Thank you for reading and I hope to earn your confidence and your vote as your next Industrial Liaison Officer!
