Rowan Myall
As your DesEng course rep, I’ll be an enthusiastic advocate for you and your opinions. I’ll be an impartial representative of all of our cohort’s views, and I’ll always make sure you get a clear and timely response from the most appropriate member of staff .
Together, we’ve already succeeded in improving the assessment criteria for Design Engineering Practice to allow submissions using software other than Fusion360. It’s a small win, but it’ll make our master’s experience a little bit easier, and I enjoyed canvassing our cohort’s opinions and organising a proposal we were all happy with.
I’ll work just as hard on the bigger issues that are likely to come up this year, including our course’s relationship with industry, workshop facilities and access, and dissertation supervisor availability.
I’ll make sure we’re being well-served both academically and socially by collaborating closely with our school rep, the other course reps, and the Design Society.
I’ve worked as a design engineer for the past three years and I regularly visit events like New Designers and degree shows, so I have a good idea of what industry expects from graduates of courses like ours.
I was re-elected to serve in the equivalent role on the employee council in my workplace, where I represented the R&D department to the managing director, and successfully advocated for better training opportunities and more flexible working hours. I was always ready to champion people’s opinions clearly and honestly, and I’ll do the same again as your course rep.
