Council Representative (UG Business)

Hi, I’m Max Stokes, a first-year Economics, Finance and Data Science student in the Kensington stream. I’m running for academic rep so that students’ concerns reach programme leaders early, clearly, and with solutions attached.

What I’d focus on:

1. Workload that fits the time we’re given. Many of us are finding that some weekly assignments take longer than the time available before the deadline. I’d gather feedback across the cohort, bring specific examples to programme leaders and push for deadlines and workloads to be better matched, so the work helps us learn rather than leaving us rushing.

2. Easy ways to be heard. I’ll set up a simple, anonymous way to send feedback, so no one has to feel awkward about emailing a lecturer.

3. Reporting back. After every staff-student meeting, I’ll share what was raised, what was agreed and what’s still outstanding.

Why me?

During my year as a degree apprentice, I worked with other apprentices to feed back to programme leads and senior sponsors that apprentices should spend more time on campus. Following this, the programme went from two in-person visits across four years to one every year, so I know that feedback raised well can change things.

At school, as a prefect, I helped organise sports day and inter-school competitions for a house of around 350 students- so I’m used to coordinating large groups and delivering on deadlines.

With your help, I'd love the chance to put these ideas into practise!

Thank you for your consideration.
