Hongcheng Wu

Hi! I’m Hongcheng Wu, but most people call me Calvin. I’m a first-year Design Engineering student, and I’m running for CGCU Clubs and Societies Officer.

Student societies have been a big part of my life. I’ve seen both the exciting side and the less visible side — planning, funding, recruitment, approvals and keeping things running week after week.

Some of my past experience includes:

• Founding and leading baseball, F1 in Schools and VEX Robotics teams
• Running a 20+ member baseball club with twice-weekly training
• Helping recruit external coaches
• Organising a five-school tournament for around 150 students
• Reaching out to companies, preparing sponsorship proposals and securing sponsorship for my F1 team
• Mentoring younger students and helping clubs continue after older members left

If I’m fortunate enough to be elected, here are a few things I’d like to work on:

• Put together a simple practical guide for funding, room bookings, sponsorship and approvals
• Share sponsorship templates and advice for societies looking for external support
• Encourage better committee handovers, so societies do not have to relearn the same things every year

I’m still new to Imperial, so listening will be a big part of the role for me. I’d be very happy to hear what societies need and help wherever I can.

Vote Calvin (Hongcheng) for Clubs and Societies Officer!
