Design Engineering (UG): Year One Academic Representative

Hi! I’m Hongcheng Wu, but most people call me Calvin. I’m a first-year Design Engineering student, and I’m running to be our Year One Academic Rep.

Since we are all going through the same first year together, I’d like to help make sure our feedback actually reaches the department.

I’ve had some experience with student representation and academic support:

Served as Vice President of my school’s Academic Department
Collected student feedback and met with teachers and school management
Helped organise academic events, competitions and peer support
Ran regular AP Physics sessions for 15+ younger students
Led my school Physics & Engineering Club and organised 50+ sessions

Those experiences taught me that good academic support starts with listening. Different students notice different problems, and small issues can matter too.

If I’m fortunate enough to be elected, here are a few things I’d like to work on:

Keep a simple anonymous feedback form open throughout the term
Do a quick cohort check-in before department meetings to see what people most want raised
Send a short update afterwards on what was discussed and what happens next

I’m still getting to know Design Engineering just like everyone else, so I’d really value hearing what matters to you.
