Diya Tibrewal

Black & Minority Ethnic Students Network Member

My name is Diya Tibrewal, and I am a student in the master's of Science in Epidemiology programme at the Imperial College School of Public Health. I am running for the position of Black & Minority Ethnic (BME) Students Network Member because I believe that an international community like Imperial must provide equal opportunities to and accurately reflect the contributions of people from the global majority.

As a BME network member, I will strive to:

1) Improve representation of global majority ethnic groups among the Imperial student population, in particular, the Black community

2) Strengthen outreach and mentorship programmes to encourage more applications from underrepresented communities

3) Identify potential areas to decolonise course curricula and implement non-Eurocentric language and thinking

To act on the above, I will also encourage consistent dialogue between the BME student population and the committee to ensure that the Network acts in accordance with students' lived realities.

My prior experience as an executive committee member of several student societies during my undergraduate degree, including the NUS Students' Cultural Activities Club, NUS Resonance, and NUS Students' Association for Visions of the Earth, has taught me to understand the needs of the communities I serve and take the necessary action in response to them.

I would be honoured to represent the student population for the academic year of 2026-2027 and be given the opportunity to contribute to a better college experience for all.
