Steven Zhu
Hi, I’m Steven, and I’m standing to be your Student Representative for MSc Analogue and Digital Integrated Circuit Design.
I have two years of previous experience as a Programme Representative in my undergraduate school, during which I represented students on academic and course-related issues and received very positive feedback from the students I represented.
One of the most significant cases I worked on involved a controversial decision to scale down marks for an assessment. Many students were concerned about the fairness, transparency and academic justification of the scaling. As their representative, I gathered student feedback, organised a petition, and formally raised the case with the relevant academic board, questioning the rationale for the decision and asking for it to be reviewed before final degree results were determined.
Although the final decision was to retain the scaling, the experience taught me something important about student representation: a rep should do more than simply pass on complaints. When an issue matters, students deserve someone who can gather evidence, identify the key arguments, communicate them clearly and professionally, and make sure their concerns are properly heard through the appropriate channels.
If elected, I will bring that same approach to ADIC. I will actively collect your feedback, communicate clearly between students and staff, follow up on issues rather than simply forwarding them, and represent our cohort constructively but firmly when it matters.
I already know what this role involves, and I’m ready to do it again.
