Biological Sciences (UG): Year One Academic Representative
Hello, I’m Pratyay, applying to be your year one academic rep. These past few weeks at Imperial have obviously been nothing short of crazy, and by that, I mean crazy good (Except for the TfL experience).
Being here means we all strive to be excellent students, and I want to make our academic journey as smooth and accessible as possible for all of us. Whether that be through organizing study groups, approaching professors for answers in person, or trying to get more copies of our core reading material to be provided in the library, It will be my goal to communicate with the department representatives and faculty to bring meaningful changes in our favor.
Some experiences that are relevant for this position:
- Head of the disciplinary committee of my school’s prefectorial board, where I often had to save slacking prefects from receiving harsh punishment. Additionally, any cases of bullying reported by the prefects had to pass through me. The danger of misinterpreting a situation and causing direct harm to a victim of bullying was always great, and this made me realize the value of being able to interpret social situations correctly.
- Co-founder and Vice President of my high school’s Physics club. I handled communication with the staff and the rest of the committee for bookkeeping, setting up general meetings, and addressing internal complaints between committee members. This role put me in situations where I needed to learn to bend school rules (such as using dry ice and lighting fires)
