Tansy Xue

Hey everyone, I’m Tansy and I am running to be your next Orchestra Conductor :)

I’ve loved the breadth of opportunity and sense of community that Orchestra offers ever since Diogo first lured me in with that Danzón No. 2 piano solo in first year. Balancing these rehearsals with Light Opera rehearsals gave me a unique perspective on two somewhat different (but both highly enjoyable) Tuesday evenings a given ICSM Arts society fresher can have. I then absolutely loved co-directing the music for Urinetown for Opera’s Main Show this year, and I would love the chance to work with a larger ensemble over a longer period of time and give my contribution towards building the ICSM Arts community.

As Orchestra Conductor, I want to ensure that Orchestra is a warm, exciting and encouraging place for anyone interested in both musical and social fun. I firmly believe the two are NOT mutually exclusive, and I aim to have people walking out of my rehearsals both musically and socially satisfied, and most importantly, feeling like you belong :) In my view, the best music comes less from the correct notes (though do your best!) than from the energy and enthusiasm you bring to them and to each other, and I hope to bring this to flourish over the course of this year!!

By the end of the year you will also all agree that the kazoo is the best instrument.
