Afif Sajid

As-salaamu ‘alaykum,

I’m Afif, and I’m running to be the next Chair of STEM Muslims Society.

I joined STEMM in my second year as part of the General Committee, where I had the opportunity to support events and get involved across different areas of the society, including outreach and careers. Through this, I’ve seen how valuable STEMM is as a space for Muslim students to grow professionally, build confidence, and stay connected to their deen.

For me, STEMM is more than a careers society. It is a community built on ambition, service and Islamic values, helping Muslim students in STEM feel supported, represented and motivated to pursue excellence.

If elected, my focus would be on three main areas:

1. Building on our outreach work

Continuing to inspire younger students through school events and initiatives, while showing them that STEM is a path they can see themselves in.

2. Strengthening careers and professional opportunities

Developing long-lasting links with companies, alumni and professionals, so our careers fairs, panels and networking events create opportunities beyond a single session.

3. Developing our community from within

Maintaining a welcoming space through socials, workshops, reflective events and collaborative projects that help members build confidence while keeping our values at the heart of what we do.

I’m grateful for the work of previous committees, and I hope to continue building on that progress with sincerity, organisation and a genuine commitment to serving the society.
