Lena Kesraoui
As-salaamu alaykum,
Muslim Medics has been one of the most meaningful sources of sisterhood, support, and belonging throughout my time at Imperial. Coming into medschool as a nervous first year from a state school in Hackney, I often felt out of my depth. However from the very first MM events, I was welcomed with such warmth and kindness that I quickly found a community that felt like home.
MM has always been far more than an academic society to me. It has been a source of encouragement through difficult moments, a reminder that I was never alone, and a community that helped me stay grounded in my faith and values. Because of the compassion shown to me, I became deeply passionate about giving back and helping others feel the same sense of comfort and belonging.
This year I was delighted to pay forward some of that kindness through my role as Sisters’ Freshers’ Fortnight Head for ISoc, where I coordinated events alongside my subcommittee and members of the wider Muslim society committees. I was also honoured to receive this year’s MM Sisterhood Award, which reinforced my belief that small acts of kindness and encouragement can have a meaningful impact on wellbeing.
As Wellbeing Officer, I would love to organise initiatives that support students emotionally and spiritually, whether through study support workshops, reflective reminders, buddy schemes, volunteering opportunities, or relaxing socials. I would be honoured to contribute to the spirit of unity, compassion and service that makes MM so special, inshaAllah.
