Zakariye Ibrahim
Assalamu Alaykum,
My name is Zakariye and I am running to be your next Outreach Officer.
Having personally benefited from outreach and having seen the positive effects of outreach on the community, I know full well how meaningful this role can be. I believe Muslim Medics should not only be a society for medics, but a society that serves the wider community.
For me, outreach means building meaningful connections with the people and organisations around us; taking Muslim Medics beyond the campus and into the places where our communities actually gather.
If elected, I would focus on three main areas:
- Firstly, I want to organise community health awareness sessions on issues that are prevelant in our communities such as diabetes, mental health, smoking, and healthy eating habits. These would help raise awareness and challenge misconceptions.
- Secondly, I want to create more volunteering opportunities, including care home visits, food bank support, and charity partnerships. Outreach should also be about showing up and serving the community.
- Thirdly, I want to build consistent links with local community centres and charities so our outreach becomes more reliable and long lasting.
My aim is to make outreach practical and community centred. I want Muslim Medics to be known not only for what we do within university, but also for the benefit we bring outside of it.
