Hi! I’m applying for ILO to strengthen our connections with the industry. Having been part of social events through the Imperial ambassador scheme, and acting as a liaison between Aeronautics and prospective students, I am confident in my ability to manage large scale tasks, and I would like to use this experience to organise more events where we can have meaningful conversations with people in the industry.
As well as companies visiting and promoting different career paths, it is important to also create stronger connections with them. This would be done by having frequent Q&A sessions with them, so that students can remain informed about opportunities, especially in sectors where there is stronger interest, such as in Formula 1.
I would also like to expand our networking events by having more industry dinners and workshop events, where students can have the chance to have real conversations with professionals from the industry, rather than quick, rushed chats.
Networking within the university is just as important. I want to encourage more collaboration between different societies and STEM degrees, and hold joint events to forge stronger links between all students.
Finally, I want to represent undergraduate voices in event planning. Doing surveys before and after events means that this feedback can be used to understand what students want, and can be fed directly into how we engage with companies in the future.
My goal is to make sure that every Imperial student leaves confident and well-connected in their place in the industry.
