Hi all!

I’m Alex, one of the novice dancers on the Ballroom & Latin team (though by day, I’m a 2nd-year PhD student).

I truly love this society! It has been my escape from research throughout my PhD. Having joined as a complete beginner last year, I know exactly what it feels like to step into a high-performing team with zero experience. I want to make sure our next cohort of beginners discovers this society and finds it just as welcoming and enjoyable as I did.

If elected, here are a few of my goals for us:

• Let’s impress everyone with our dresses and suits at the Welcome Fair! We cannot let the other sports societies outshine our sparkle.
• I’d love to work closely with the committee to organise more social events right at the start of the year, creating a strong sense of belonging early on within the whole society (joint Social Dancing and Ballroom & Latin teams).
• Of course, we must continue the tradition of booking the JCR for the whole week.
• We should invest in some proper cleaning equipment for the JCR floor so it’s always primed and ready for our practice sessions.
• I will work closely with the committee to ensure everyone has total clarity on class and practice timings (for both Social Dancing and Ballroom & Latin teams), as well as our shared responsibilities in keeping the JCR ready for action.

Finally, I want all of us to enjoy our time together in the society!
