Computational Biology: Vice Chair

Hi everyone — I’m Andrei. I work with Python, C++, and SQL. I’m especially interested in stochastic modelling in biology, particularly understanding how randomness and noise shape real biological systems.

As Vice Chair, I want to make CompBio feel more useful and more connected, especially for students who are curious but don’t know where to start. My priorities are:

  • Getting new students coding early: beginner-friendly programming sessions (Python first), short practical workshops that build real skills (data wrangling, visualisation, basic modelling using Scipy, Pandas and Matplotlib).

  • A clearer pathway into projects and data analysis: small, guided mini-projects people can join mid-term (e.g., analysing datasets, simple simulations, reproducible notebooks), so members leave with something tangible.

  • Stronger communication and collaboration: better coordination with biology related societies (e.g. Bioengineering society, Biology, etc.), so members don’t miss opportunities and the community feels more joined-up.

If elected, I’ll help keep things organised, consistent, and genuinely beginner-accessible — while still giving more advanced members space to go deeper through modelling and project-based sessions.
