Lamisah Syeda
Hi, I’m Lamisah, a Second year Medic running to be Year 3 Coordinator!
Going into third year, many of us start thinking about which specialties we might be interested in. At this stage, joining societies and exploring their events is one of the best ways to navigate that decision and discover what truly interests you.
In this role, I hope to help third years gain a better understanding of General Practice, ensure that students feel represented, provide meaningful feedback to the committee and cater our events towards them.
I hope to use past experiences to contribute positively to this role such as:
-
Fresher Rep for Bengali Society – I learned how to be a strong voice for younger years and how to tailor events specifically to their needs.
-
Afghan Society Vice President – Liaising within a committee and ensuring events run smoothly strengthened my teamwork and organisational skills.
-
Experience Lead for the Muslim Medical Conference – I helped organise a large scale event, developing skills in coordination and planning that I hope to bring to GP Society conferences and events.
-
Muslim Medics Phase 1a Tutor – Gaining experience in teaching and understanding how to engage students at different stages of medical school.
Alongside various other mentorship and leadership roles, I hope to use these experiences to make General Practice more inclusive and accessible for Year 3 students as they transition into clinical years, helping to engage them early and spark their enthusiasm for the specialty.
