Abbie Premakumar
I am excited to run for Sponsorship Officer for SORA, having previously been part of the subcommittee. Being involved in the society has given me insight into the planning behind conferences and events, and the crucial role sponsorship plays in making these opportunities accessible and impactful for students interested in research.
SORA provides invaluable academic opportunities, and I believe strong, well-aligned partnerships are essential to sustaining and expanding these initiatives. Through my leadership and media roles, including serving as Secretary and Senior Social Media Lead for the Institute of Medical Ethics, I have developed strong communication, organisational, and professional outreach skills. These experiences have strengthened my ability to liaise with external organisations, maintain clear correspondence, and represent a society confidently and professionally.
If elected, I would focus on:
-
Identifying sponsors whose values align with SORA’s academic and research goals.
-
Building long-term partnerships that extend beyond one-off event funding.
-
Securing sponsorships that provide tangible benefits to members, such as subsidised events, research resources, or networking opportunities.
-
Maintaining organised tracking and clear communication to ensure smooth sponsor relations throughout the year.
Having already contributed to SORA’s activities, I understand both its strengths and its potential for growth. I would be committed to securing meaningful partnerships that enhance opportunities for students and support the continued success of the society.
