Design Engineering: Competitions Manager

Hi! I’m Daisy Fang, a Year 1 Design Engineering student running for Design Engineering Competitions Manager.

In high school, I helped organise a school-wide sports day and debate competitions, so I’m comfortable coordinating people, timelines, and communication. Since arriving at university, I’ve seen a shared frustration: competitions are exciting, but information is scattered, teams can be hard to form, and feedback is often unclear.

If elected, here’s what will change:

  • Monthly competitions newsletter (email): it will includes key deadlines, briefs, sign-up links, and what each competition requires.
  • Team-Up + beginner support: I’ll organise termly Team-Up sessions and run 30–45 minute pre-competition mini-workshops, plus provide simple templates (roles, timelines, submission checklists).
  • Post-competition feedback + showcase: after each competition, I’ll share a short summary of “what judges looked for”, common pitfalls, and useful resources, and run an optional showcase/gallery (with creators’ consent) so everyone can learn from each other!🥰
  • More professional and fair partner competitions: I’ll standardise brief templates, publish judging rubrics early, set up one clear communication channel, and keep logistics smooth so everyone receives the same information.
  • Better student benefits from sponsors: I’ll actively negotiate with partners for more resources and opportunities, such as mentor office hours, prototyping/material or printing support, studio/workshop access, site visits, networking with industry contacts, and prizes that genuinely help your portfolio and career.😎👌

My goal is simple: make competitions easier to join, better supported, and more rewarding for everyone.
I’d love your vote! 🤩
