Hello Investment Society! My name is Erik Pedaja, a 1st year Chemical Engineer.
I have had the pleasure of attending Investment Society networking events, fireside chats, and the SEC course, helping me (hopefully) secure a summer venture capital internship. Coming from a non-finance background, I understand the struggle, and view this role as an opportunity to make the transition into finance easier for every member.
Through conversations with committee members, I have identified three growth areas…
- Broaden the Network - Cooperate with other societies (VC/PE and Algosoc) to incorporate hedge-funds and venture firms, ensuring we provide useful information and exclusive internship prospects to every member of our society.
- Exclusive Buy-Side Events - Negotiate larger sponsorship deals to host more Imperial exclusive events, including insight days and office visits (which have been lacking) to provide necessary networking opportunities for our members.
- Industry Professional Workshops - Bring in more buy-side professionals by tapping into Imperial's alumni and sponsors, to give practical advice for students looking for careers in the buy-side after graduation.
To allow these to take shape, I propose upgrading the sponsorship package by allowing top sponsors to post content on our social media.
Outside of finance, running my catering business (serving 150+/day) and pitching my go-to-market strategy to a start-up (Outlyer.Space) have taught me to communicate my ideas in a concise, convincing manner, and manage my time efficiently. These experiences make me confident I can implement my action plan, while bringing fresh energy as Head of Buy-Side Corporate Relations.
Thanks for reading ;)
