Bio Engineering: Academic & Technical Events Coordinator

Hi! I’m Tanishka Gautam, and I’m running for academic and technical events coordinator because I’m passionate about strengthening the academic and intellectual side of our bioengineering community.
Bioengineering is one of the most interdisciplinary degrees at Imperial, yet outside lectures it can sometimes feel hard to explore topics in depth or build confidence in the technical skills that underpin them.

That’s why I want to organise events that provide students with a deep dive into a specific topic within bioengineering, and ensure students can directly apply what they’re learning to research, projects, and future opportunities.

If elected, I will:

  • Organise research talks with professors, PhD students and researchers that clearly highlight real applications and research pathways
  • Plan practical technical workshops that give students tools they can immediately apply to UROPs, projects and internships
  • Create interactive Q&A-style sessions that make academic discussions accessible and relevant to all year groups

Clear communication and organisation skills are important for coordinating with the department and delivering structured, high-quality events, which I have honed in past leadership and communication roles such as young enterprise, form captain and sports ambassador, as well as industry experience, which I have gained in a biotechnology company. This will allow me to represent the society professionally and reliably.

My goal is to make academic events engaging, practical and genuinely useful for every bioengineering student, giving them skills they can actively apply, whether they are aiming for research, industry, or deeper understanding. Thank you for your support!
