Obstetrics & Gynaecology: Early Years Academic Officer
Hi, I'm Mariya, a third-year medic, and I'm excited to run for Early Years Academic Officer!
I’m super passionate about O&G. This year, I’ve joined the British Undergraduate Society of Obstetrics & Gynaecology as a Student Ambassador, representing Imperial on a national committee. I've contributed to teaching resources, written research spotlights, and collaborated with medical students across the country, developing a range of interpersonal skills.
As a Personnel Officer on ICOGs subcommittee for this year’s conference, I secured leading experts to deliver workshops and share valuable insights with attendees.
As a core lecturer for the Muslim Medics Year 1 teaching series, I delivered multiple tutorials, including the Development & Ageing session. I know how challenging this topic is and how important student-led tutorials are, having both benefited from them to now teaching them.
In this role, I aim to organise exam-focused tutorials based on this year's feedback and to provide plenty of practice questions, ensuring students feel confident and well-prepared for the exam. But beyond that, I'm keen to boost early years engagement with ICOGs and inspire interest in this incredibly rewarding speciality. I have loads of exciting ideas, and I hope to help make this society more welcoming to early years!
