TC Chan
As a first-year student, I understand how big the transition from sixth form to university can be. Starting university is exciting, but it can also be overwhelming at times. The Mums and Dads Scheme played a huge role in helping me settle into university life, feel more comfortable, and make that transition much smoother. Because of the positive impact it had on me, I want to use my experience to help incoming students feel welcomed, supported, and confident as they begin their own university journey.
If elected as First Year Coordinator, one of my main priorities would be to strengthen the Mums and Dads Scheme so that it continues to be a meaningful and reliable support system for freshers. I would work to make it more organised, approachable, and engaging, so that new students can build genuine connections with older students and feel supported from the very beginning.
I would also focus on planning inclusive and varied events that allow everyone to get to know each other in a relaxed and welcoming environment. By creating a balance of social, casual, and low-pressure activities, I want to make sure students of all personalities and backgrounds feel included.
Most importantly, I want to help build a first-year community where no one feels left out, and where every fresher can enjoy a smooth, positive, and memorable start to university life.
