Saleha Omar
Hello! I'm Saleha, a second year medical student and I would love to be your Events and Social Officer this year. I feel that ICOGS has an especially welcoming and supportive environment and I would love to help maintain and build on that atmosphere to give others a similar first taste of ICOGs to myself.
When I first attended journal club, I immediately felt included and encouraged, despite being early in my ICSM journey and I was also inspired by how engaged and driven everyone was with the discussions being both accessible and intellectually stimulating. That experience strengthened my interest in the specialty and showed me how powerful a positive, motivated community can be and through organising events to celebrate this speciality I would love to play a part in fostering this atmosphere further.
I have experience organising large scale events including my school leavers’ dinner joint with 3 other schools in the area which required coordinating logistics, communicating with venues and staff, and ensuring events ran smoothly for a wide range of students with varying preferences. These experiences developed my organisational skills and taught me how to create inclusive events that bring people together.
Alongside this, being part of a competitive ICSM netball team since my first year has reinforced the importance of teamwork, reliability and building connections across different year groups.
Overall, I am keen to be proactive in getting involved and contribute meaningfully through organise engaging, inclusive events that continue the positive, driven energy within ICOGS.
