Joanne La
Hi, I'm Joanne La, a first year Biology student. My interest in Immunology started with metabolic immunology, especially with the rise of GLP-1 medications and what they revealed about the overlap between metabolism, inflammation, and disease. I had the opportunity to explore my interests more directly during my summer internship, working around diabetes and metabolic liver disease (MASH), and seeing how bioscience connects to real clinical and therapeutic questions.
As Secretary, I would like to focus on the foundations:
- Consistent updates on society events and ongoings
- More advertisement and information on events as well as feedback for future events
- Post-event summaries/resources for tutorials and talks
I've had relevant experience with the admin side of societies throughout high school (secondary school + sixth form) as Treasurer-Secretary for the LGBTQIA+ society, Student Body President, and President for Journalism Soc and Community Service Soc. Over the past years, I have experience organising interscholastic conferences with multiple speakers and student-led workshops as well as day-to-day responsibilities like keeping meeting notes and attendance, so I feel confident with the routine work that keeps things running.
I’m keen to do the behind-the-scenes work properly to help the society smoothly and seamlessly without much friction.
