Alice Ye
Australian: President
I spent my adolescence on the east coast of Australia, a country of steady sunlight where evenings seemed to stretch a little longer than expected. I look back on those days with quiet nostalgia. I remember sitting with friends in the sea wind as the sun lowered into the Pacific, reading Sergey Yesenin and Vladimir Mayakovsky against the open horizon. I liked pelmeni, borsch, and listening to my favourite Australian band, ROMCA.
I remember the openness of the coast, the freedom of youth, and the feeling that the world was large but not yet distant from us.
I remember my years in Australia fondly, and I remember all of my friends fondly. I remain grateful for that time, and for the people who shared it with me.
