Vision: Friends and Alumni Officer

Hi! I’m Dhurkka Kumanan, a 2nd year Medical student running for Vision: Friends and Alumni Officer.

I would really love to take on this role to support Vision! I am extremely passionate about this role, having greatly benefited from Imperial’s outreach schemes when I was applying to medical school. Having volunteered both for large scale MMI crash course events, and tutored for MMI, I have developed a clear understanding of the importance of valuable guidance from older years/alumni.

Firstly, as Secretary for a cultural society at Imperial, I have developed my skillset in organisation, communication and logistics to help run large scale events. Having acted in SORA Subcommittee to support their conference, I have developed an appreciation for the logistics required to carry out these events and the care required to deliver them well.

If elected into this role, I will:

Liaise well with older years and alumni to build a strong support system for aspiring medics
Keep clear and open lines of communication between committee, volunteers and our event attendees to ensure everyone is kept engaged and supported in Vision’s outreach programs
Help to build a welcoming and supportive environment within Vision and build a strong, long term network with our alumni
Ensure there is clear mentorship and guidance offered to our attendees to best support them and their personal circumstances
