One of the best things about Imperial is how quickly curiosity can turn into something real. You might start with a lecture or a passing interest in energy and suddenly find yourself pulled into a project, a research direction, or a part of the sector you didn't know existed.

Hi, I’m Avan. I’m running for President of EnergySoc because I really value the culture we’ve built, and want to see it thrive.

As Vice President this year, I’m helping deliver events including the G3 Summit and collaborations with Energy UK and the Young Energy Professionals Forum. I’ve also seen what makes the society special: it’s genuinely curious and welcoming not just career-oriented. Our project teams are a big part of that and I want to keep them strong.

My priorities are:

Clear flagship events. A cleaner set of events each term that members recognise, trust for quality, and look forward to.

Reliable delivery. Event planning currently falls across the committee in an ad hoc way. I will introduce an Events Subcommittee focused on logistics and timelines so planning is shared more evenly and events run smoothly.

More cross-pollination. More joint events with other Imperial societies, more collaboration across London (building on bringing LBS into G3 alongside UCL and LSE) and collaborations with leading technical universities abroad through joint events and exchanges.

I will also host informal professor-student evenings and launch a short Energy Opportunities newsletter covering research, internships and initiatives.
