Physics: Social Secretary
We all know that Physics at Imperial can be intense.
ENDLESS problem sheets. Lectures. Seminars. Labs. Reports. MORE problem sheets.
As Social Secretary, my aim is simple:
I want Imperial Physics to be “work hard, play hard” and make the “play” genuinely worth showing up to.
I’ll do this through one bold flagship event per term, alongside regular, low-pressure socials, all informed by YOUR input.
As Social Secretary, each term will feature one major event. I want it to be something people talk about, not just attend. To make this happen, I’ll take direct student input. I’ll speak to students in Blackett, collecting ideas in person, and run Instagram polls on the PhysSoc page to gauge what you want to see. I will deliver the event that you choose.
I already have experience with this. I’m currently the only first-year on the planning committee for next term’s boat party, after proposing the idea to PhysSoc. I appreciate the importance of early preparation and attention to detail, locking in themes and venues well in advance.
Alongside the flagship event, I’ll organise regular, low-pressure socials that are easy to attend. These will be better advertised and spaced around the workload so they don’t clash with heavy academic periods. The focus will be inter-year collaboration, giving students across all years the chance to mix. Through these events, I want to build a heightened sense of community within Blackett.
