If we haven't met yet, we should. And I'll probably tell you: "you should join yachting". Yachting has become my favourite thing about Imperial. Right up there with union's curly fries. It's a club with incredible people, that learn together how to sail, and somehow have a tremendously fun time doing it. No small feat, when we're all time-pressed with university deadlines, year round. But the weekend escapes to the solent are core memories for all of us. And is why I'm running for commodore.
This last year I've raised the profile of ICYC through our website (check out imperialyachting.co.uk), posters, instagram posts, and terrific whatsapp group chat icons. Thoroughly enjoyed diving into my role of "Trip Officer", calling every european charter company so that even if they don't have a boat, they know about Imperial Yachting.
I joined as a "princess sailor" who couldn't tie a bowline. In the last year I've given it my all, made it to the BUCS race team, and am shaping up to be a half-decent bow. Excusing dropping the kite down the hatch while we were already very late to hoist... Learning!
And that's the commitment I make to you. To keep learning. To keep up my energy in gale force winds, soaking rain, and late night spoons pints. To do my absolute best running this club in my final year at Imperial. Because I love this club. And what it makes for our university experience.
