Yacht: Commodore

Fellow sailors,

I’m Neeka, and I’m running to be your Club Captain/Commodore. My journey of going from a complete beginner to a skipper with 850+ NM during my time at Imperial is something I truly cherish. I want to ensure every member who aspires to become a better sailor has that same opportunity to grow.

Whether you’re a seasoned skipper or you’ve just learned which way is starboard, I want this society to be the highlight of your university experience!

I’ve been a member of the club for the past 3 years and part of committee for 2 years, so I have a very solid understanding of how our club operates and areas of improvement.

My vision for the upcoming year focuses:

  1. More regular visits to THE UNION.
  2. I’ll introduce Theory & Pizza nights to bridge the gap between social members and learning more about yachting!
  3. Organising long weekend trips to Cornwall, Channel Islands, France & Belgium, so we get some variety apart from Isle of Wight & cows.
  4. Subsidising transport for members so we can organise coach transport via the club for trips.
  5. Organising more training and learning opportunities, introducing Yacht master theory, Sea survival, Engine and more of first aid & VHF but also workshops so members can familiarise themselves with practical tools.
  6. Upgrade some of our existing sailing equipment and add items such as sailing gloves so members can borrow those specially during racing tryouts.
