Hi, I'm Samir Akram, and I'm running to be your ICSMSU VCSA - not just with ideas, but with direct, hands-on experience of what it takes to run a club at Imperial Medical School.
As Treasurer of Imperial Medicals Rugby, I've generated nearly £7,000 through sponsorships, applied funding, and financial planning. Having served on the executive committees of both Rugby and the Botanical Society, I have first-hand insight into the different needs of sports and arts clubs. My role as Social Secretary, combined with five years at a local charity, has sharpened my organisational and communication skills. I understand what committees need to succeed - because I've been in those roles myself.
From day one, I will hold one-to-one meetings with clubs that need support, providing clear guidance on events, trips, and Union processes. I'll offer hands-on support with budgeting, funding applications, and sponsorship strategies. I will work with the Management Group Treasurer to explain financial processes to S&As and produce an updated guide on creating products on SUMS.
I will ensure the Arts Dinner and Sports Awards reflect the effort our students put in, with fair and transparent award policies. I'll grow the Clubs & Societies Instagram and work with the VCVA to offer society takeovers during major fixtures and behind the scenes of shows and concerts.
Medical school is demanding. Clubs are essential to students' wellbeing. No club should feel isolated. I'm experienced, approachable, and ready to make clubs easier to run and better to be part of.
