Kerem Teker
Electronic & Information Engineering (UG): Departmental Academic Representative
MANIFESTO
Kerem Teker
Candidate for EIE Department Academic Representative
Over the past two years, I have served our department as:
- EEE First Year Academic Representative
- EIE Second Year Academic & Wellbeing Representative
- Peer Tutor and Undergraduate Teaching Assistant (UTA) within the department
Through these roles, I have engaged with the department not only as a student, but also from the peer support and teaching side of our academic system.
Why Me?
Throughout my experiences as a student leader and my involvements in peer-teaching in this department, I have developed first-hand insight into:
- how coursework specifications are interpreted by students
- where academic support systems succeed (and where they fall short)
- how issues are escalated and dealt with on a Departmental level
- how student feedback is reviewed internally
- how module delivery constraints (labs, software access, support capacity) affect teaching decisions
Not to mention that I have been led by example by exceptional Dep Reps these past 2 years.
What I’ve learned from Previous Roles:
My experiences made me reflect on the importance of:
- consistent engagement with academic issues as they arise
- documenting concerns where appropriate
- following up on matters beyond their initial resolution
In representing EIE students at Department level, I believe it is important that attention is paid to:
- coordination of assessments and cumulative workload across modules
- consistency in teaching and academic support
- access to resources, including laboratories, study spaces, and learning platforms
- ensuring recurring academic concerns are documented and followed through at Department level
