Biochemistry (UG): Departmental Academic Representative

Hi everyone, I’m Yuvraj, and I’m running to be your next Departmental Academic Rep.

I’m heading into Year 3 of Biochemistry. I’ve served as a Year Rep and worked closely with staff through SSCs and BioChemSoc. I’ve seen how change happens and how often it doesn’t.

Let’s be honest.

  • Why do both coursework and exam results take so long to return?
  • Why does personal tutor interactions vary so widely between tutors?
  • Why are deadlines clustered when the term calendar is fixed months in advance?

These are structural issues. And they affect stress, performance, and fairness.

Biochemistry is meant to be academically challenging. It should not be administratively unpredictable.

If elected, I will push for:

  • Clear, enforceable turnaround timelines for all assessments.
  • Transparent marking criteria released before submission.
  • Cross-module coordination to reduce deadline congestion.
  • Defined expectations for mentoring so support is consistent across students.
  • Pre-exam academic forums to surface concerns early.

I won’t go into SSCs to nod politely. I’ll go in prepared, with evidence and student input. If something is unclear or inconsistent, I will ask for answers and follow up.

Representation should produce visible outcomes, not just meeting minutes.

If you want someone direct, persistent, and focused on measurable improvements, I’d value your vote.
