Deputy President (Activities)

I'm Tom, your Deputy President (Activities), running for re-election to keep making activities simpler, faster, and fairer.

Last year, I promised faster approvals, better training, and easier finances — and I delivered. Event proposals are approved in 6 days (not the day before!), and I've already allocated £41k through the Activities Development Fund. That's double last year's total, and still growing.

But there's still more to do.

Activities should be the best part of your time at Imperial, not the most stressful. I will take the stress out of running and participating in activities, so you can focus on building communities, not battling processes.

What I've achieved:

  • Streamlined the Activity Proposal process, cutting approval times
  • Established £100 start-up funding for every new society and overhauled training to help them build their communities
  • Improved the Student Experience Fund with partial payments; spending is up 10%
  • Launched a consultation on disruption funding for societies affected by the Great Hall's closure
  • Improved access to funding by widening the Activities Development Fund

What comes next:

  • Improve our systems to give you more trust, control and transparency — starting by fixing SUMS
  • Continue improving finances and sponsorship response times. We're not there yet.
  • Expand the Student Experience Fund to postgraduate and international students
  • Re-establish student executive committees for Community, Culture and Knowledge societies — they deserve the support and representation that Sports and the Arts receive
  • Introduce centralised first aid training for committees
  • Champion more inclusive and free Union events
