Physics: Cultural Diversity Officer
Hi, I’m Jia Ying, a second-year Physics student. I’m British-born Chinese, and growing up between two cultures has made me really value how much diversity shapes the way we see the world — and each other.
I’m running for Cultural Diversity Officer because I want our Physics community to feel welcoming for everyone, whether you’ve come from abroad or from around the corner. 💫
What I envision is a Physics community where we can:
- Celebrate culture properly – relaxed, genuine events that let people share their traditions, stories, and food.
- Help everyone feel at home – bring international and home students together, not just in the same room, but actually connecting.
- Listen and represent – make sure everyone’s experiences are heard and valued within the department.
Diversity isn’t about ticking boxes - it’s about creating constructive interference, where all our different experiences amplify each other instead of cancelling out. 🌊
