Bioscience Review: Events Officer

Hello everyone, I’m Badri, a second-year biotechnologist! I am excited to run for Events Officer of Bioscience Review because I spent most of last year interning for a very early-stage health data & education start-up where I wrote articles on different medical conditions. This experience introduced me to the vast science communications opportunities. While Bioscience Review is very much a virtual society, I would like to change that by organising events for social and professional development! I have a few ideas regarding the events I would like to plan:

  • Inviting a panel of medical writers and science journalists to talk about their career trajectories and how one can get more involved.
  • Collaborative events with Debate Society to debate current dilemmas in the bioscience industry and write engaging, controversial articles.
  • Career networking events with representatives from science writing companies and media communication groups.
  • Science mixers with current academics, PhD and MRes students to discuss science hot topics - this would also allow you to discover areas of research you might be interested in!
  • Collaboration events and talks with other bioscience-related societies. For example, SynBIC is planning to organize many talks from guest speakers, and I would love to partner with the events officers of those societies!

I know that the Review is doing great with the articles, but I think we could definitely do better on the social side of things! As events officer I will be committed to creating many opportunities for our society to get together! ๐Ÿงฌ๐Ÿงช๐Ÿ“„๐Ÿ“š
