Vishal Vijay Kumar
Hi everyone,
My name is Vishal and I am a fourth year medical student, currently intercalating in the Haematology iBSc.
Haematology is the backbone of diagnostics and therapeutics, yet its complexities can often make it intimidating. My vision for the Imperial Haematology Society is to make this vital specialty accessible, exciting, and practically relevant for every student, regardless of their career path.
My goal is not just to host lectures, but to create tangible skills and career pathways.
-
Diagnostic Skills Workshops: I will institute a dedicated series of Blood Film Tutorials and Lab Interpretation Sessions. These small-group, hands-on workshops, led by Haematology registrars and lab technicians, will give members the confidence to interpret complex blood results—a crucial skill for all future doctors.
-
Specialty Insight & Mentorship Program: I will aim to develop focused career events that clearly distinguish between the pathways of Clinical Haematology/Oncology, Haematopathology, and Transfusion Medicine. I will establish a structured mentorship link, pairing interested students with consultants to provide realistic advice on portfolio building and specialty application.
-
Research Integration Initiative: I will launch a new initiative dedicated to connecting students with research projects, audits, and poster presentation opportunities within Imperial's world-leading haemato-oncology units. This will boost academic CVs and foster early research interest.
If elected, I will strive to give you the resources and exposure necessary to truly excel in this fascinating field.
