Hi all, I’m Sami, I’m currently doing an MRes in Bioinformatics and Theoretical Systems Biology. I was so glad to see Imperial has a Computational Biology Society, and I’d genuinely love the chance to contribute to the committee as your next Educational Officer!
A bit about me: I’ve been active within computational biology for a while, starting with my undergrad in bioinformatics at the Technical University of Munich. My thesis was focused on transcriptomics, where I built a new Python package for automated analysis pipelines of RNA sequencing data of a rare pediatric disease. Before coming to Imperial, I also worked as an educational data scientist in Berlin, where I created online learning content to teach people how to navigate complex data.
I want to combine that bioinformatics and educational experience to help our members learn about cool comp bio tools, concepts, and research out there. I’d love to organize a workshop on single cell RNA-seq data analysis in Python (scanpy!), and I also believe that regularly inviting researchers to present their work can bring lots of valuable insights to all of our members.
If this sounds interesting to you, I’d appreciate your vote for Educational Officer!
