Ahmet Tanrikulu
Hi, I’m Ahmet. I am a first-year materials science student; you might have seen or heard me clacking around the department with two bright blue crutches. As a transfer student and someone who has lived in multiple countries, I know that finding your community is everything. For students with disabilities, a sense of belonging and a strong support network are essential for thriving at Imperial. As your Community Engagement Officer, my mission will be to build that supportive, active, and vibrant community for all of us.
My focus will be on creating welcoming spaces where we can connect. I will organise regular, low-pressure socials in accessible venues, allowing us to build genuine friendships and share our experiences. To provide more structured support, I will establish a peer-mentoring scheme, connecting new students with returning students who can offer practical advice and guidance on navigating university life.
My ultimate goal is to foster a community where every student feels seen, heard, and celebrated. I want to move beyond simply raising awareness and help build a true sense of "Disability Pride" on our campus through events that highlight our diverse strengths and stories.
