Ethics & the Environment: Campaigns Officer

Hey hi - I'm a first year Ecology and Environmental Biology student who's ready to talk your ear off about sharks at a moments notice.

But that's (probably) not what you're here for.

As the Ethics and Environment Campaigns officer, I would aim to see the improvement of biodiversity on Imperial campuses. There are many spaces on campus that we walk through every day that could be greatly improved through the building of planter boxes with native climate resistant plants. Not only would this be a simple way to brighten campus spaces, but it also offers the opportunity to upcycle materials in their construction.

I would also like to see students at Imperial being able to take on a larger role in sustainability – particularly through internal streams. This would entail better advertising of campaigns within Imperial, such as the sustainable halls scheme, which is a simple way for us all to make a difference. On the other hand, I would also like to create new initiatives at Imperial: like setting up forums through which people could easily thrift products internally without having to go through third party vendors.

However, I think we should all keep in mind that although individuals can make a difference; systems changes will be just as important in the fight against climate change. Hence I would continue to support the Ethics and Environment network in encouraging Imperial towards net zero energy sources.

Enjoy your day and feel free to ask questions if you see me!
