Hey, I’m Dhruv Mathur (@dabossxi). I’m a first-year physics student running for the Ethics and Environment Campaigns Officer and I’m pushing to make sustainability and clean enterprise flourish here at Imperial.
A Supportive, Sustainable, Equitable Imperial
Imperial’s founding mission is ‘to be useful’. The first step to building this community is to acknowledge and celebrate the immense progress taking place on campus and through staff: The 2025 Zero Index, Imperial’s outsized contribution to world-leading climate research (IPCC AR7) and developments across faculties should take center stage. Likewise, reports on shortcomings should be annually undertaken and reviewed for public access as we enjoy our incredible QS score for sustainability.
Butterflies in Brazil and Tornadoes in Texas
Ecosystems, waste management, the weather, the economy - powerful systems sensitive to disruption. With just one more single-use plastic reaching a landfill or the ocean we go from arable land to junkyard, from clean waters to marine hazard. We may not be able to divert the 72 billion tons of sewage from the waters running through London, but we can champion access sanitation, vegan options, composting, gardening, and sourcing ingredients locally without making student life more inconvenient and unaffordable.
Bodies upon the Gears
Despite unprecedented momentum for conscious consumption around the world and on campus, the college continues to do business with or defend its controversial partners. As Campaigns Officer, I will demand fair treatment for our staff and students as well as supporting their right to help grassroots causes at home and across the world.
