Biochemistry (UG): Year One Wellbeing Representative

Hi all,

My name is Yubo Gao and I’m excited to stand as Year One Wellbeing Representative for Biochemistry.

Academic life at Imperial College can feel overwhelming. However, this often overshadows other important aspects of life: mental health, healthy relationships, finances, equality & diversity, and personal safety. In my role, I aim to progressively contribute to the Biochemistry community at Imperial. I want to make everyone feel welcome and raise awareness of any issues that come up.

As your Wellbeing Representative, I aim to:

  1. Represent the student body - Provide open, accessible pathways for students to provide feedback regarding all aspects of student wellbeing, which will then be reflected upwards.
  2. Transparency - The student body (you!) are kept informed of all the decisions made.
  3. Money-Saving Tips Bulletin – Share simple budgeting, student discount hacks, or meal-prep tips via group chats.
  4. Monthly Socials - Work with the Wellbeing Representation Network to organize low-pressure social events (board games, picnics, coffee chats)

Serving as prefect and working on the student council has taught me to communicate effectively with both staff and students. Engaging in volunteering and organizing STEM workshops for local primary students has developed my empathy. I’m confident that these experiences have prepared me to take on the role of Wellbeing Representative.

I would be honoured to support and represent you during the coming year and to be given the opportunity to make a positive impact on your university experience.
