Sumaiya Islam

Hello! My name is Sumaiya and I am so excited to be running for your Phase 1a Wellbeing Rep this year. As a first-year medical student, I know all too well the feeling of being overwhelmed and feeling like there is no time to prioritise your wellbeing. I am eager to prove to you that the importance of our wellbeing cannot be diminished; in order to excel in our studies, we must excel in our health!

Throughout my time at secondary school and Sixth Form, I maintained active roles in the student council, advocating for the voices of students to be heard. This equipped me with transferable skills such as communication, clarity of speech and time management: all skills which I hope to develop through this role.

My main aim is to amplify the student experience by demonstrating to you that as a student, you are valued and your opinions matter. I hope to provide a safe and supportive environment for you to express your concerns with the faith that I will do my absolute best to act as a bridge between us as students and the Faculty to ensure a healthy and positive university experience for our year group.
