We have all came a long way to be where we are now. Studying at Imperial Collage is not only a great achievement, but also a proof of enormous effort, determination and personal sacrifices. Some of us gave up on free time and hobbies to achieve this goal. Yet this success often comes with high cost: exhaustion, pressure, and fear of failure.
Imperial is a demanding, highly competitive school. When it encourages growth, it can also be a mental strain. I believe that taking care of our wellbeing is not addition to our studies, it is the fundamental condition for learning effectively and being a part of bigger society. If we do not prioritise our welfare, our concentration, motivation and confidence can suffer.
As a Wellbeing Representative I want to be a genuine voice for our first-year Materials Science cohort. My goal is to actively listen, identify difficulties and communicate them to those who can help make a change. It is important to provide a place where everybody can say “I need help”.
I believe that our academic achievements do not have to come at expense of our wellbeing. Imperial has the potential to be not only a place of study, but also a place of common understanding and support. I want to ensure that every single one of us will be seen as an individual and supported with his unique needs. I will do what I can to decrease stress and pressure we might feel.
