Murky Liu
Dear folks,
Welcome back to fourth year—and if you’re joining us this autumn, a very warm welcome to the department.
My name is Murky, and I’m an MSci student who has just returned from a placement year. I have been living with mental health challenges for a long time, and I genuinely would not have made it to fourth year without the support of the department and my coursemates, which brought me to this election to pass on the help I received.
Over the past four years, I’ve accessed many forms of support—such as personal tutors, pastoral care team, wellbeing advisors and the disability officers. Yet even with all these resources, I’ve often found it difficult to reach out to the correct person, and sometimes simply asking for help has felt overwhelming.
If elected, I want to amplify voices that need to be heard, and make it easier for every student to find the right support when they need it.
Finding a job, struggling financially, feeling left out, or fearing what comes next... I am in the same place with you.
With the long winter nights approaching, do you feel you need a safe space to share what’s on your mind? I would be glad to listen, and I hope we can find ways to make things better—
or, I don't know who needs to hear this: it’s okay to be with where you are right now. You are good enough already. ❄️
