If you're unfamiliar with me, my name is Joel, and I am a second-year chemistry student who aims to be your second-year representative. Studying here has given me the privilege of meeting all the wonderful and intelligent people I learn alongside. The people I've been able to surround myself with in this department have given me invaluable support, and honestly, I can't thank them enough. So, in whatever way I can, I want to give back to my community, and be someone who you all can reach out and talk to. My primary goal in this post is to build a stronger sense of unity and kinship among our year group. I would be thrilled to be a voice for our year by getting to know as many of you as possible, and to be a conduit for all your opinions and ideas. I aim to accomplish this by organising second-year-focused events such as cake sales run by us, sports days and plenty more. Another of my goals as a representative stems from hearing many of my fellow students are stuck in cycles of applying to internships and stressing about what to do in their future. Many of the jobs of our future still need to be invented; I will strive to ensure there are opportunities made to allow this. I am often in the chem cafe, so I hope you will find me so we can get to know each other.
