Eda Bakay
Hello everyone, I’m Eda Bakay, a second-year Biological Sciences student, and I’m running for RAG Officer because I believe charity is more than fundraising, it is about uniting people through purpose, compassion, and action. I have always been driven by impact and meaningful causes; I led a sustainability awareness project that won 1st place at the 8th Istanbul Carbon Summit, an experience that taught me how to turn ideas into action and deliver results through teamwork and dedication. I have also volunteered in hospitals in my home country and will begin volunteering weekly with the NHS, experiences that strengthened my commitment to caring for others and supporting wellbeing in real-life situations. In addition, I volunteered in environmental conservation with DEKAMER, protecting endangered sea turtles— a role that taught me how meaningful change starts with people coming together for a cause. This experience reflects exactly what the RAG Champion role represents: coordinating purposeful action, rallying people behind charity initiatives, and working as part of a team to support important causes. If elected, I will create exciting and inclusive fundraising events such as cultural charity nights, challenge weeks, science-themed fundraisers, and creative raffles that reflect the energy and diversity of RCSU. I will work collaboratively with other societies and represent RCSU on the ICU RAG Committee to support charities chosen by our members and maximise our fundraising impact as a community. Most importantly, I will ensure RAG events are welcoming, meaningful, and accessible to everyone.
